Like any good magician....

 I'll need a lovely assistant.....

The end is high, so the begining must be low.

Its November and already I see santa in malls and people humming tunes of good will that make me want to vomit. Ah and then soon there will be screaming kids everywhere. ><

Well a brand new computer sits on the desk in front of me, its slowly getting all its brains inserted and soon more digital work will materialise and then spawn across these pages.

Now the only thing to do is get to work, alas as an artist I bet i'll find more excuses to not do anything, till it hurts too much to do nothing.

Alice Cooper blew my mind the other month, it will take me a while to put it all back together again. One has a new collectors item - guitar pick, and it bounced off my head rather than the usual heroic snatch from the air above all others.

The bad news, a broken pacer. That is almost like the end of the world.

Bring Your Body Back to Me

The 'Body' Series is BAAAACK.

Melinda Olive has rebirthed the Body series after some serious down time. No longer is there a facebook nor is there a life outside a future gallery orientated individual putting pen to paper.

It has been particularly nice to continue on a 'me' journey without the constant chatter and noise from particular social mediums. Although that means the artist has to deal with a whole heap more self time. Which is rather concerning in itself.

Despite subjecting the brain to a new Business Management Course nightly, the real artist has swarmed back to the top and the reference folder has been open. With 5 new Body pieces produced back to back in the last 2 weeks.

When, not if, they will be disclosed is unknown at the moment. But to the left of this writing is a little sneak peak for you. ;-D

Enjoy my audience.

Art is life, You just stole it.

Okay so if I proclaim my art as my life, as so many of the artists out there do today. And you steal it....my question is does this mean you have stolen a life. And to further that thought, would that make me obligated to steal yours?

I would declare YES>

Right now I have wasted 2 hours deleting, and locking down my on line self. All because some people out there think my hours of work are worth them cashing in on. I do not believe at any point you can even consider that as fair, viable or even remotely healthy.

So I warn you, and I state very nicely.

The next person I catch stealing, re posting, altering, re editing, re using, claiming my work as their own in any way shape or form, and I will catch you, there will be a form of pain you have never known, a type of hurt that catches in your pelvis and tears itself through your spin and out your chest.

I dont take to kindly to people anymore, and less likely to take kindly to those who think im not worthy of higher art stature, but totally worth stealing.

Look at it, but do not touch!

It burns sometimes...my future is not so direct

A quick update in all that is Melinda Olive .com,

I got the wonderful letter in the mail on my birthday after a 16 hour car trip. That my application for residency was unsuccessful. Yes, it was a blow, yes i became the slightly more depressed and introverted artist. 6 months of work, time and effort for nothing.

But what hurts more is that the people at The Canberra Contemporary Art Gallery did not think it was necessary to answer my simple question of 'why'?

Its nothing more than a dead end, and one does not know exactly where the stage or the audience is now. Or even what to do next.

On another topic, if you missed the 'space invader' exhibit at the National Gallery Canberra, you definitely lost out on that one. It was in fact rather inspiring and something thats less boring than the rest of the things that the gallery contains.
And i only say that cause i've been to the gallery in LA....with the rembrandt exhibit on.

The sydney tattoo expo is on next month, lets look into Mel's next medium.

Till then, sideways only.

The more things change, the more they stay the same

Its time for an update, and perhaps I may have also run out of pacer leads so this is my alternative. XP

Its hard to say how I feel at this moment, but it seems that the last 13 months didn't happen. I've come full circle in my employment via job jumping. There is very little on the enjoyment front and I've gotten rid of almost everything that i was doing in those last 13 months.

Either they are complete or they do not exist anymore.

The residency application is done. And that was a relief although I am pondering the idea of trying to just get a space if I fail. Cause I don't wish to let this go without a fight. I demand you see this stuff in real life, and leaves you just begging to touch it.

Progress with everything is slow and the Christmas season is starting, I hope you are all healthy and stay away from that nasty hay fever and may those who sing along to the carols still 7 weeks out get laryngitis.

Surge In Art Production

  Long time and no update.
Its all been for a good cause though. I'm currently working on 2 series. 'Flesh' and the other being a new pulsating features of the continuing 'bodies' series, that will no doubt ever die.

This work is also tied in with some more fx designs and the well rounded belief that as an artist I desire to be taken seriously and want to show you the world through darkened eyes. With that in mind one is fully functioning and creating, and no doubt doubling efforts for residency.

The works will be on display shortly in the gallery link.

Bloody Triangles

It was the morning of February 28th, and although one spent some time out in the parking lot of Cabramatta police station mixing blood the night before, there was no worry of arriving late. As the models turned up, everthing got happening and soon the pre-made blood was flowing thick and fast.

A change of clothes for models, the discussion of what weapons were on the set, and how much blood we wanted, spread nothing but joy through me. As I set myself up for a few hours work, being watched over by the interested and disgusted audience, much to my own self pleasure.
The hysterics started with the every popular "Are you alergic to laytex?" question. Lollies and blood, real bones and derma wax was the favourites of the day.
A quick journey to the set saw tight spots, grease and the piggy back rides for naked footed models over shards of fallen glass.

With the call for violence, and menace in the shots, it was hard to contain the models overly happy presence. However once it was, some awesome shots were taken and the story progressed rather sensually (which was not expected but was a nice touch) and violent.
No sooner was it on, it was over, all sticky, dirty and rather mangled models and photographers left. It was although rather humourous to see 2 models in one car, when really they looked more like they should have been in the back of an ambulance on a quick trip to the hospital. One can only imagine what the other drivers in the other cars were thinking as we left for a late lunch.

With epic efforts of all involved the day was a smash, the delight was seen on all, especially the faces of those young-birthday-going-macca's children when they came face to face with the beaten models.
I wanna just add a thank you to all who were involved on the day, and previous for the help and contribution made to the day. It was alot of fun and a perfect way for me to stretch my makeup legs, which hasnt been done in a while.

Bodies 2008

Is in discussion to be held early 09, if not it will be towards the end of the year and include the 09 works as well.

The human body is somehow becoming what I am known for. With the portrayal of the naked human form as nothing more than what it is. Although people have had their own perceptions of these images, I liked to enforce that the human form when its stripped bare you haven’t anything left to hide. From that it is the most powerful image I can present to an audience.

Bodies will hopefully end up being a yearly display of the figure pieces that have been produced each year.

Bodies are my trademarks, can I have yours.

Across the Sea with Riches.

The trip was a success on all fronts.
Despite some persons comments before I left, I did not get lost whilst over in America, in fact the trip gave me some time for self reflection and I discovered something I can cling to even now.

Ones Art.
For some unknown reason my little escapade has opened fresh incisions into the creative, Somehow I feel like I could just bleed art into being at the moment.
After one interesting talk to a studio artist in Vegas, with his thoughts processors and desires conveyed to me through his art and inspiring speeches left me reeling. He spoke of a few things that clicked inside and I walked away with a new understanding.

I am unique in my ways but I am definitely not alone.

Either it is because there was so many more people or because that he had accepted himself some time ago that he spoke with the candor that the Australian artist simply cannot or shall not.
The one thing that struck me most was the artistic separation. Artists place so much of themselves in their art, in many ways art equals the persons self. So considering that, and when (inevitably) the artist creates flawed art, that they are a flawed person, and when they make no art, they are no person at all.
It hurts, so human nature forces us to separate the identities till which time we can accept it or the artist just gives up art.

Why did this stand out to me?

I've struggled to sit comfortably in the art space, simply cause of that one thought and I sure as hell wasn’t going to talk to someone about a separate identity. People’s perceptions are already so put out by me most of the time.
Because of all the artists I had a chance to converse with I was able to gain some bearings and I've never felt so comfortable with my art as of now, than I ever have either in a class room, or in galleries or simply just presenting.Which brings me to a point, a long round about way of saying I have a new focus, I am no longer confused about mediums and the direction it was taking. No more conceived ideas from people to box what it is exactly that I can and do actually produce.

From this I've undertaken a project that will no doubt take a year or so to get completed, working with other artists to meet the end. I'm excited and those that have had the idea proposed to them are also enthusiastic about joining me.
Everything else really has become secondary.

Lost In America

As of the 23rd of October, Melinda Olive will be adventuring in the United States to find out if there really is a way to get lost. This will be a journey in artist exploration, and knowledge.
With nothing but a sketchbook and a need for artistic knowledge a month abroad mainly in California will no doubt encourage a new atmosphere, thus my other projects will be placed on hold for the moment and continued with new vigour and inspiration on return.
